After six of the most intense months of my life I've finally completed ground school passing all 14 ATPL subjects first time with an 89% average... and I'm very, very happy indeed!!

Module 3 was by far the toughest in my opinion and the introduction of the new exam style/questions made things even trickier. There's also alot of content already in Mod 3, with the subjects being, Aircraft General Knowledge, Air Law, Operational Procedures, Flight Planning and both VFR & IFR Communications. The additional worry as to how the new style exams would be added to the overall stress during the final few weeks. The new Quadrant style exams are definitely tougher, for example I had 6 box questions in Flight Planning all of which were multi marker fuel calculation questions and a number of multi select questions in both Comms and Ops. The exams are not impossible but they are definitely harder than the older style which I had been used to for Mod 1 and 2.

You'll be surprised to hear my favourite subject in Mod 3 was Air Law. Purely down to the fact it was a case of just learning a vast number of facts and numbers as opposed to AGK for instance, where an understanding of the theory and workings of the aircraft needed to be developed throughout the module. Ops was by far my least favourite subject, with questions coming from what seemed like anywhere at the time, hence I spent last weekend reading ICAO annexes and EU documents just to cover all grounds so I was prepared... it wasn't the most exciting bit of revision I've done but it was definitely worth while with a couple of things I'd seen in the annexes popping up in my exam.

Exam week was a very stressful few days indeed. In the previous two modules we had only four exams to sit so they were spread nicely over two days but with six to sit in Mod 3 it was a long and stressful three days of exams from Monday to Wednesday. With so much to gain by passing the last lot it really was tough but as a class we ploughed through them and come 2pm on Wednesday we had completed groundschool!

The Wednesday night after everyone had finished was again a very stressfulI one with most people worrying about at least one or two of their exams, for me it was Flight Planning and Ops. Again on Thursday morning, there were alot of nerves in the class, everyone was tired and mentally drained from just how tough and demanding the last few days had been. Come 8:50 yesterday morning the first set of results came trickling through by email.... my heart was pounding along with everyone else's.

I was delighted to open my results to find I'd passed all six exams.... I couldn't be happier!!! After six months of constant revision and lots of hard work I've now got a few weeks off at home to relax before I start my flight training out in New Zealand! ✈
