Module 1: Update

I can't believe how fast the last few weeks have gone.... It only seems like yesterday I attended the 'First Flight' event and APD 1 as mentioned in my last post! A fair amount has happened since...

The Friday after we started, myself and the rest of the CP went out to a bar for a few drinks so that everyone could get to know each other a bit better. I have to say this was a great thing to do so early on as the next time we all saw each other come Monday we felt as though we'd all been friends for a lot longer than 6 days!

The day after APD 1 we began lessons for my first four exams. The subjects in Mod 1 are Meteorology, Human Performance & Limitations, Mass & Balance and Principles of flight. The first few days, if I'm honest, were nice and chilled and the workload was manageable. About a week in is when the workload picked up considerably! The amount of content is unbelievable, the amount of facts that need to be remembered is immense and then there is the theory side of POF and MET that has to be nailed! So yes in a nutshell it's not easy but it is interesting and MET is my favourite subject in Mod 1 by far!

Just over a week after we started we received our uniforms which was great, finally getting to wear our epaulettes, name badge and CTC tie made us feel and look the part and it was nice to get out of wearing a suit everyday.

I'm also now in a good routine with regards to washing, ironing, cooking and revising. Sounds silly but this is my first time living away from home so I was initially a little apprehensive but I have to say I'm enjoying it now that I'm settled... I still ask my Mum for advice on some things though ahah! Revision wise, it's everynight after school and most of the weekend. I do take breaks so not to overdo it, for example I only do an hour or so on a Friday just reviewing my notes from the day and then I take the evening off to myself to relax. Similarly on a Saturday evening I'll have some time away from the books in order to take my mind off of everything. Otherwise it's lessons from 8:45 - 16:05 and then revising from roughly 18:00 - 21:30 weekdays.

As we're roughly half way through Mod 1 now, this week we had our first set of progress tests in Meteorology and Principles of Flight. I managed to get 85% in both which I'm happy with for now. Next week we have progress tests for the other two subjects, Mass & Balance and Human Performance, then it's only 1 more week in the classroom before mocks!!

L3 CTS:

So as some of you may be aware the CTC Aviation name no longer exists. Instead, the company is now called L3 Commercial Training Solutions - Airline Academy. A mouthful I know!

CTC Aviation were acquired by L3 Technologies, a US based electronic and communications company back in 2015. L3 are responsible for making airport security scanners, radios, radars and more importantly for us, state of the art flight simulators which you may have seen at the training centre in Southampton.

The main change due to the takeover are aesthetic, so the company name, logo and uniform will be changing. Although the L3 symbol has been part of the CTC uniform for some time it is completely changing, although it is currently unknown when the new uniform will be rolled out and whether it'll be given to new CPs only or every cadet.

Yesterday at lunch we had a meeting with the CTC customer service team to discuss our views on the new uniform and find out any information about the complete change of name. The general consensus regarding the uniform was that it needs something on it that says aviation! It is just a concept at the moment, although personally, I much prefer the current CTC uniform that I'm wearing!
