First flight:

So after many months of waiting for the selection process to unfold and another few months to get everything sorted out and onto a course, the day finally arrived for me to head to Coventry to start my ground school training.

As the "First flight" day started relatively early at around 10:15, Mum and I decided to stay in a local hotel the night before which would reduce any stress of a 2 hour drive up the motorway on the morning of the event.

Come 10am we found ourselves checking in, before we headed down a corridor past the classrooms at the Coventry centre and into the canteen area know as the "The Apron". It was here that I finally met the rest of the guys and girl on my course... CP164/EZMP19. Mum split off and started chatting to the parents while I stayed with my new class mates and friends to break the ice and get to know each other. After, say, 10 minutes or so the introduction began. We were congratulated for making it into CTC and onto the programme before we individually went up to the front to collect our epaulettes. A short while later we split into two with the parents staying put for a Q&A session while the rest of the course and I headed to a class room to begin our induction. We received our flight bags and went through the general outline of the course, rules and regulations/ requirements, safety and general admin paperwork.

After lunch we waited around for abit so that we could be measured for our uniforms and once done we were free to go and move into our new accommodation. As Mum and I had stayed locally the night before we had time to have a quick drive to the house to see where it is. The house itself is great, large enough, modern finishing and plenty of storage space. Once I'd settled and unpacked Mum left and I headed off for a curry with a course mate who I had moved in with.

APD 1:

The first day at CTC otherwise known as APD 1 or in other words Airline Preparation Day 1 began with a video of some easyJet guys completing their base training... Just a little motivation to get us going! Some more health and safety paperwork followed and before too long we were introduced to the Learning Advisor and began to go over different ways to revise and how to answer exams questions, learning exam techniques and tools to achieve top marks.

After lunch we began lessons on basic maths. Revising GCSE standard maths needed for the the ATPL course including Indices, Trigonometry, Rearranging equations and BIDMAS. After completing a short maths pack filled with questions covering a range of topics we sat a short 12 question maths tests. I managed to get 92% which is good news considering I haven't done too much maths in the past year! Once completed we were free to go.

I've just got home, got changed and sat on the bed and safe to say I wont be moving off of it for a while... It is tiring! Normal lessons start tomorrow with HPL (Human Performance and Limitations) in the morning and POF (Principles of flight) in the afternoon... Wish me luck!
