Well, it's been a long wait but yesterday I attended day 2 selection down in Southampton for the Generation easyJet Pilot Training Programme.

About a month ago I was just checking my application dashboard like I have been doing for months to see if there were any dates and too my surprise there was one! I ran down stairs and loaded up my computer but as soon as the internet had loaded the page, the date was gone!!! Safe to say I was pretty annoyed that day.

Anyway, the weekend passed and come Monday morning, aware of the fact that dates were starting to become available, I checked once again and there was another! Without even checking when it was I clicked it and confirmed my attendance. I'd finally booked myself on day 2. As the final weeks passed I crammed in as much revision as possible, working pretty much all day everyday for the month prior.

The day before my selection, as I had already done twice before, I headed down to The Pilgrim Inn (I should be getting payed for this subtle advertisement aha) and enjoyed a relaxing evening before the big day. I made sure NOT to revise the night before as I had done enough during the six months I had been waiting for the day so it was a case of trying to relax and control the nerves while trying to get a good night's sleep.

Well that didn't happen. I barely got any sleep!

As far as the morning goes... (Déjà vu strikes again) it was pretty normal. I chilled in bed and had a light breakfast consisting of some pretty horrible yogurt/ Oates thing from M&S and some fruit. I also decided to watch a few Michael McIntrye videos to relax me and get me in a positive mood before the day started. Come 8:15am I found myself signing in again and taking a seat with the other candidates. Once again, everyone was really friendly and we all got on well which made each of us feel a lot more comfortable.

At about 9am the easyJet assessors (yes easyJet :p) lead us into an adjacent room where they talked through the outline of the day. They went on to congratulate every one of us for getting to the very last stage and explained the training and employment details, detailing potential contracts and bases etc.

Afterwards, we headed back out to the seating area and waited for the assessors to come and get us ready for the group exercise. After a short while chatting the group split into two. Once again, I cannot detail the tasks we had to complete however, the group exercise is nothing to worry about. More information on this and other selection tasks can be found on the CR Community and should you have any queries you may find the answer there.

After the group exercise we had lunch and I tucked into a homemade sausage roll with salad. Umm tasty. After lunch the group headed back to the seating area and everyone waited for their individual interviews. Pretty much everyone chatted and only one or two people got out their notes to revise. I would advise against doing this as it can make you feel more nervous and apprehensive about the interview. Instead we all made sure to relax and joke and just enjoy the time we had before we were whisked away for the most important formal 'chat' of our lives.

At around 2pm having been waiting a couple of hours after lunch, my interviewer came to fetch me and took me to the interview room. All I can say is that my interviewer was an easyJet Captain based out of Luton, and she was lovely!

The interview started with a few starter questions such as "why do you want to be a pilot" and the inevitable "why easyJet?" and then moved onto the harder competency interview style questions. Which I didn't do too well with when I was there for the Virgin Atlantic selection day. That aside, in my 6 months waiting time I'd gathered roughly 30 examples of competency interview answers illustrating times I had shown leadership, teamwork, a time I'd persuaded someone to my point of view and a time I'd been criticised for my work; to name just a few.

At the end of the interview I asked a couple of questions. Make sure you do this to leave a good impression and after a firm handshake and thank you I headed out of the interview room and only then could I finally relax. Everything was done. I'd completed all aspects of the process and I now just had to wait and see if I had done enough. I got in the car and went back to the B&B for a well deserved drink before the long 3 hour car journey home last night.

As I attended day 2 selection on a Friday it means I have to wait until Monday to hear back. So far it's been the longest Saturday ever....
